This week is the penultimate session for most of our groups so we really wanted to cover some key issues with them. We decided to put these issues under the theme ‘Responsibility’.
The session started with a game: you write your dream on a balloon and tie it around your leg. Each child must then try and pop the balloon/dream of everyone else.
After the chaos that often ensued, we then asked each child to think about why they popped each other’s dreams. ‘Because you told us to’ – yes, but that doesn’t always mean it’s the right thing to do and you need to take responsibility for your actions no matter what other people tell you to do.
In groups, the children then discussed several key issues:
- Teen pregnancy
- Drug and alcohol abuse
- Social networks
It was really interesting to hear their views on each of these topics and how they could help others who may be in those situations.
We also got in some time for fun 🙂
Learnings this week: it has been interesting to think this week about how you are responsible for you own actions even when other people are telling you what to do. Whether that’s something small like popping someone’s balloon or, something bigger, standing against drugs or violence; all are equally important in the responsibility you take for the way that you live your life and treat other people.
